Richard Spinelli, profiles and channels

Richard Joseph Spinelli publishes under his own name in two places and keeps public profiles in several more, and the table on this page lists every one with a note on what it holds. The writing itself lives on Medium, where his nine longer essays appear, and on Blogger, which carries his eight operating notes. Muck Rack gathers his bylines into a writer profile. LinkedIn holds his professional profile, and Crunchbase keeps the founder record tied to Sandhills Real Estate.

Four sites with separate jobs

Four other websites carry his name, and each does a different job. His home page, richardjosephspinelli.com, covers the company and how to reach it, and it hosts a set of essays written for that site alone. The long biography is on aboutrichardjosephspinelli.com. richardjosephspinellinyc.com is a neighborhood guide to Belmont and Arthur Avenue. The encyclopedia at richardjspinelli.com covers the business of housing students, the borough and the subjects he follows, and it is where this site sends readers whenever a general topic needs a full treatment.

Reading a byline beside the local record

The profiles all lead back to the same seventeen pieces, but the pieces read differently beside local reporting on the same ground. His Blogger note on storm response, for example, gains weight next to Norwood News coverage of the September 2023 storm1 that shut three parkways and led to a water rescue a few miles from Fordham. His note on judging an old building from its roof and cellar sits beside Brick Underground’s explainer on the state flood history notice2, which since June 2023 has required New York landlords to state a building’s flood history on new leases and renewals.

What makes a writer credible online has been studied for decades: Nielsen Norman Group found3 that readers still judge trust by design quality, candor up front, comprehensive content and a visible connection to the rest of the web. Readers are better served by checking a writer elsewhere, the lateral reading habit Poynter’s MediaWise recommends4, than by trusting a bio; a Center for Media Engagement experiment covered by Nieman Lab5 found reporter bios alone did not raise trust. A profile can collect the bylines. Setting them against the record is the work this site exists to do.
